On April 5, 2002, we received a visit from a woman who had a letter from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) . The letter was asking us if we would take the lady’s three grandchildren -“Catherine, Kevin Jorge & Theresita.” The lady informed us that she had just brought her grandchildren to DSWD but DSWD had referred her to Subic Bay Children’s Home.
Theresita has not seen her parents for many years. Her mother left her & her family for another man. Shortly thereafter, her father left her & her siblings with their grandmother with the promise that he would return for them once he had found a stable job. Theresita’s father must have never found a stable job because he never returned. Theresita’s grandmother works in the market selling vegetables from 4am up until to 10 in the evening. Since the grandmother only makes P100.00 pesos ($2.00) a day she could not afford a baby sitter for her grandchildren so everyday from 4am up until 10 pm Theresita would roam around the market. The market where Theresita’s grandmother worked is located in Pag-asa a part of Olongapo which is very notorious of all the drug pushers and addicts. At a very young age Theresita was introduced to the world of street children. Theresita learned to beg and pickpocket.
April 6, 2002, Theresita was taken into Subic Bay Children’s Home. Theresita was malnourished and had a large stomach due to the worms which she had. She was dewormed and brought to the hospital for a medical check up. Theresita is now very healthy and striving. Theresita is learning to sing and recite Bible verses.
We praise God that Theresita was brought to us while she is still young. Let us pray together that the Lord will use Theresita in a strong and mighty way.
